Environmental Sustainability Director
Ms. Kristen Bertuglia has served the Town of Vail and the Vail community in an environmental role since 2009, most currently as the Environmental Sustainability Director, overseeing the town's sustainability, climate and environmental policies and programs, and strategic plans. This work includes open space and wildlife habitat protection, waste diversion, environmental education, energy efficiency and renewable energy, mobility solutions, local food access, and protection of the Gore Creek watershed and ecosystem health. She also works on the state and federal level to influence climate and environmental policy decisions. Ms. Bertuglia strives to inspire positive environmental change through her personal and professional life, serving on the Board of Directors for Walking Mountains Science Center, Holy Cross Energy as Vice-Chair, and is the former Chair and current board member of the Colorado Communities for Climate Action. She also was instrumental in leading Vail to become the first Certified Sustainable Destination in the United States and a Top 100 Sustainable Destination in the world for the past 5 years.
