 Recycling Rate in 2023

Universal Recycling was put in place in Vail in 2014 requiring all residents and businesses to recycle by law. Since it was enacted the recycling rate increased from 9% to 36% by the end of 2023. The recycling rate is determined by calculating the tonnage of all municipal solid waste generated from residents and businesses and determining what percentage is diverted from the landfill through recycling and composting. The Town’s recycling ordinance requires all waste haulers to report these tonnages at least twice a year.
