Town of Vail provides clean and renewable energy through multiple solar PV installations.
The Town of Vail has approximately 200 KW of installed solar capacity. This includes 150 KW of clean energy for use in the local energy supply as well as a number of rooftop systems supplying renewable energy to Town of Vail facilities.
Town staff track energy production from renewable energy systems and regularly monitor the systems for issues.

Town of Vail 2022 CDP Score
In 2022, the Town of Vail reported climate mitigation strategies and plans to the Climate Disclosure Project (CDP), a voluntary global climate reporting platform for cities and businesses worldwide. CDP runs the global environmental disclosure system. Each year, CDP supports thousands of companies, cities, states and regions to measure and manage their risks and opportunities on climate change, water security and deforestation.
The Town of Vail’s A- score from the Climate Disclosure Project puts us into the Climate Leadership category for municipalities. Over 800 cities, states and regions worldwide, including 200 in North America disclosed environmental information through CDP.
Vail Community Energy Savings
In 2022, the Vail community reduced its carbon emissions by 116 Metric Tons of C02, saving $16,547 annually on their energy bills.

since June 2022
The Shift Bike regional electric bike share program launched in 2022 to provide alternative methods of transportation throughout Vail and neighboring communities to reduce transportation-related greenhouse gas emissions, supplement public transit, ease parking congestion and increase access to e-bikes.
Since 2022, 17,096 Shift Bike rides have taken place in Vail and partner communities in Eagle County, totalling 53,681 miles ridden. By shifting their rides, people in Vail and Eagle County have reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 47,239.7 pounds (or 21.43 metric tons) of CO2e! This is the equivalent of taking 4.8 gas powered cars off the road for one year.

Sole Power is a green commuting challenge to encourage residents in Eagle County to get out of their cars and commute with human power: bike, walk, skate, or run! As a community, we strive to log 60,000 miles of human- powered commuting during the challenge from Memorial Day to - Indigenous Peoples Day / Columbus Day. Since it started in 2013, Sole Power has engaged over 2,690 participants who have collectively logged 454,458 miles of human powered commuting to replace vehicle trips. Learn more and sign up HERE.
